Secret Tricks
To Finding
Cheap Flights

Finding the best deal on a flight can be hard as airlines will fluctuate their prices from week to week and even throughout the day.

To save you from pulling your hair out, here’s a list of some secret tricks to finding cheap flights…

Don’t use a
travel agent

There’s no need to pay a middle man extra money to do something you can easily do yourself.  In this day and age with the internet, you can find and do everything you need to do to book your trip online.

There are hundreds of travel blogs and websites online giving you information for free and, remember, Google is your friend!

Be flexible

When it comes to finding cheap flights, being flexible is your best tool.  The more flexible you can be with your travel plans, the more flight options open up for you.

If you can switch up the days you fly you may be surprised to see a drastic change in your airfare as some days of the week are busier (and more expensive) travel days than others.

Fly off peak

Airfares are based on supply and demand.  The more demand there is, the higher the airfare is going to be.  It stands to reason, then, that if you travel when demand is low, you’ll be getting the cheapest fares.

Traveling during the off peak season can save you hundreds of dollars.  Also, look for early morning or late night red eye flights as those flights tend to be less popular and therefore less expensive.

Well, look at you saving all that money!  Guess you have some cash to buy the Euro Trip Kit now.  It’s a fantastic way to begin planning and dreaming about your euro trip.

Low cost airlines

Low cost airlines don’t have all the bells and whistles of major carriers which means they pass those savings on to you.  These carriers will also frequently advertise seat sales so keep your eyes open.

There are dozens of smaller airlines around the world offering much cheaper fares to the same destinations.  Remember bigger isn’t always better!

Alternative routes

Instead of going directly to your destination, look for alternative routes to get there.

For example, instead of flying directly into Rome, you might be able to find a less expensive overseas flight to London and then a cheap $20 airfare on a low cost carrier from London to Rome.

Make a game of it and try different combinations – you never know what you’ll discover!

Book at
the right time

Some times are better than others to book your flight.  While it’s certainly not written in stone, some airlines usually advertise their cheapest fares Tuesdays in the afternoon so look for fares then.

Use your miles

There’s nothing cheaper than free.  Use your miles or points towards your airfare and you’ll only have to pay the taxes for your flight.  Many people overlook this simple way to get cheap flights but it’s a really simple process.  If you don’t have a credit card with a rewards program then you’re really missing out.

Stay connected

Airlines often have spur of the moment seat sales.  These sales are usually only offered for a short period of time so it’s really easy to miss out on them.

Sign up to an airline’s social media page to get updates when they offer their sales.  There are also blogs dedicated just to airline deals that you can follow.

Instead of looking on an airline’s website that will only show the airfares for their flights, go to a multi-airline booking site.  There are several websites that scour the web and then list the airfares from all the different airlines.

Booking sites let you easily filter and change your search criteria so it’s easy to plug in different search options and see what’s out there.
